There is a particular electricity in the air when Edmonton's North Saskatchewan River valley plays host to a celebration pulsing with color, rhythm, and the unmistakable warmth of Filipino hospitality.
The Edmonton Filipino Fiesta returns this weekend to Louise McKinney Riverfront Park — spreading across a sweeping 500-metre riverside stretch just south of downtown.
Gates open Saturday at 11 a.m., launching one of Western Canada's most beloved Filipino cultural festivals.
Organized by PHIDEAS — the Philippine Edmonton Events and Arts Society — the two-day event features live performances, traditional Folklorico dance, Arnis martial arts demonstrations, a kickoff parade, and family activities rooted in Filipino heritage.
The Fiesta Marketplace draws hungry crowds with barbecue pork skewers, crispy lumpia, sinigang, and the iconic halo-halo — while local vendors celebrate Filipino entrepreneurship in full.
With more than 64,000 Edmontonians of Filipino descent, this free, all-welcome festival is far more than a party — it is a living declaration of cultural pride embedded in the heart of the city. Read More... |
