Another thursday and we raise glasses to the Quon dynasty!

.....dig in!

Edmonton’s food scene thrives on the dedication of local family-run restaurants that shape the city’s flavors and sense of community.

The Quon family has defined this spirit at The Lingnan since 1947, blending traditional Chinese dishes with modern touches, while also capturing hearts through TV series like “Family Restaurant: The Quons.”

Their popular lunch spot, Chicken for Lunch, closed in February 2024 as owner Amy Quon stepped back for health reasons.

Elsewhere, the Zenari family revived their legacy at Zenari’s Little Italy in Zocalo Greenhouse, and the Leitch family brought Patricia Street Deli’s spirit to Edmonton after wildfires forced a move from Jasper.

Challenges persist, Continental Treat Fine Bistro closed after 43 years, but newcomers like Boa and Hare and Little Bon Bon in Chinatown inject fresh energy, ensuring Edmonton’s culinary tradition endures.

The resilience and warmth of these families continue to connect and uplift the city.
