A short drive east from Edmonton leads to a truly iconic Alberta landmark: Mundare’s giant Ukrainian sausage.
Standing an impressive 42 feet tall, the statue is a towering tribute to Stawnichy's Meat Processing, the local family business that has made Mundare sausage famous since 1959.
Started by Woytko and Anne Stawnichy, the business is now a fourth-generation institution.
But the monument represents more than just a beloved local product.
It celebrates the rich legacy of Ukrainian pioneers who settled Central Alberta in the late 1890s.
