Burger It Forward: Edmonton's Culinary Drive to Combat Food Insecurity

Local Eateries Unite to Support Edmonton's Food Bank Through Signature Burgers

February in Edmonton brings more than just chilly temperatures; it heralds the return of Burger It Forward, a nationwide initiative dedicated to alleviating food insecurity through the universal love of burgers.

From February 1 to 28, over 200 restaurants across Canada are participating in this campaign, with numerous Edmonton establishments joining the cause.

Each participating restaurant crafts a unique Canadian beef burger, and for every one sold, Canada Beef donates the equivalent of one meal to Food Banks Canada, up to a maximum of 20,000 meals.

This initiative not only supports local food banks but also bolsters community restaurants facing economic challenges.

In Edmonton, the campaign has seen enthusiastic participation from beloved local spots.

While the full list of 2026 participants is set to be released on February 1, previous years have featured favorites like Three Vikings, Highlevel Diner, Jack’s Burger Shack, and Rockin’ Robyn’s Diner.

These establishments have delighted patrons with signature creations, each reflecting the city's diverse culinary landscape.

For instance, in past campaigns, Three Vikings offered the Norseman Burger, a hearty blend of flavors paying homage to Scandinavian roots.

Similarly, Jack’s Burger Shack introduced innovative twists on classic burgers, drawing crowds eager to support a good cause while indulging in gourmet fare.

The impact of Burger It Forward extends beyond satisfying appetites.

In 2024, the campaign raised over $67,000 for food banks across Canada, with nearly 60,000 burgers sold nationwide.

Edmonton's Food Bank benefited directly, receiving significant contributions that aided in providing essential services to those in need.

Local beef producers have also played a pivotal role.

Alberta Beef Producers contributed $1,000 each to both Edmonton and Calgary food banks during the February fundraiser, emphasizing the agricultural community's commitment to addressing food insecurity.

As the 2026 campaign kicks off, Edmonton residents are encouraged to participate by visiting local restaurants, trying out the featured burgers, and sharing their experiences on social media.

By doing so, they not only enjoy culinary delights but also contribute to a larger movement aimed at ensuring no one in the community goes hungry.

For more information on participating restaurants and how to get involved, visit the official Burger It Forward website or contact Edmonton's Food Bank directly.

Let's come together this February to support our local eateries and make a tangible difference in the fight against food insecurity.
